Anonymous asked: Dear American Gentleman, It has been my custom to hold open the door for my female companion when she is entering or leaving a home or building. Some suggest I should also hold open the door for her when she is getting into or out of an automobile. Would that be old fashioned, or is that still expected of an American gentleman today?

It’s not expected but it’s a nice gesture. Especially at night or in the rain.
