Anonymous asked: Dear American Gentleman, I am about a month away from finishing my unpaid summer internship and am wondering if it’s appropriate to purchase a gift for each of my supervisors. These two individuals have gone out of their way to teach me their “tricks of the trade” as well as include me as a colleague in the organization rather than a mere intern. I want to show my appreciation, but is a gift the best way to do that? If so, what’s an appropriate amount to spend? Thank you.
No. You don’t need to get them gifts. You should ask them if they will be references for you and if they will write you letters of recommendation. You just spent all summer working for free. That’s enough of a gift.
